These prints are from etchings done by the 18th Century French artist François-Nicholas Martinet for Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux – a multi-volume work produced by George Louis Leclerc who was the head of the Royal Botanical Gardens under Louis XV. Begun in 1749, it was eventually published in multiple volumes in 1771 – 1786.
